The degree programmes for marketing have been designed by us very carefully with a number of key aims and objectives in mind. The full programmes are specified in the University Calendar of the year of your entry to the University, copies of which are held in the Library. The Calendar is also available on-line here. Most programmes specify a series of compulsory 'core' modules within the subject area plus a range of options which may be chosen from within or outside the main subject area of your degree. The Calendar entry for your degree programme will tell you which 'outside' modules are acceptable. These are often referred to as "other semester modules " or "outside modules".
Even if you are not studying for a Marketing degree, most degree schemes will allow you to take some Marketing modules as 'other semester modules ' within their degree programme.
International students can study our Undergraduate Certificate if they do not possess the necessary entrance requirements to be admitted directly to the first year of an undergraduate degree programme.
All students taking degree programmes provided by the Departments of Marketing and Management must successfully complete three introductory modules in Business and Management. These are normally taken in the following order:
| MGT9A1 | Management, Information and Control | First Year - Autumn |
| MGT9A2 | Markets and Resources | First Year - Spring |
| MGT9A3 | Business in the 21st Century | Second Year - Autumn |
The Department of Marketing also offers two modules that cover various areas of the academic study of leisure, tourism and sport. These modules are taught in collaboration with staff from the Department of Sport Studies and no pre-requisites are required. They are open to all students studying in Semesters 1-3.
| LEI9LS | Introduction to Leisure Studies | Spring |
| LEI9LM | Leisure Management | Autumn |
The Department has a number of degree programmes which share some common core modules. Whilst our Retail Marketing and Tourism Degree Programmes have more core (or compulsory) modules than the Single Honours Marketing Degree Programme, we try to keep students' options open for as long as possible. All students must take our fourth semester Introduction to Marketing module (MKT9M4) which provides access to a range of Marketing modules. As a result, most students need not specialise until the start of their 3rd year of studies and sometimes even later.
Follow these links to see some details about each of the degree programmes and also each of the various modules that make up our degrees.
